Ephesians 2:3-5 “We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love that he had for us, made us alive with Christ even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace!”
Psalm 73:26 “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.”
Acts 7:9-10 “The patriarchs became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt, but God was with him and rescued him out of all his troubles.”
BUT GOD. This is a phrase that we hear so much throughout the Bible. The story that sticks out the most to me though is the story of Joseph.
Joseph was the son of Jacob (who God renamed Israel) and Rachel. Jacob loved Joseph more than he loved his other sons and to show that, he gave him a long-sleeved robe. Many know it as the “technicolor robe”. Joseph's brothers did not like this and were jealous of Joseph. They all banded together and planned to kill him. Well, all except for Reuben. Reuben eventually convinced the brothers to just put him in the pit but then he planned to come back later and rescue him and bring him back to Jacob. Before Reuben could come back to get Joseph his other brothers had sold him to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt. There the Midianites sold him to Potiphar, an officer of Egypt. He was known to be close to Pharaoh. Now, had this happened to any of us, we’d have thought our life was over as we knew it. But here is where the BUT GOD comes into play.
In Genesis 39:1-6, we see that the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man while serving in the house of his Egyptian master. Because of this, Potiphar put him in charge of everything in his household. And when he did that, God blessed everything in his house because of Joseph.
Joseph is just one of the many examples of But God in the Bible. I’m sure we have all lived long enough to experience at least one “But God” moment. I know I have experienced multiple and I pray that I get to experience so many more throughout my life. I’d love for some of my readers to inbox me a “But God” moment for you! I love to hear from you guys!
