That Cross

Everyone knows this story, if you don't you're living under a rock. One day a boy (Peter Parker) was bit by a radioactive spider and developed "spidey senses". He would transform into Spider-Man at any sign of trouble. Anytime someone cried out to him and needed his help he showed up. But what if Peter Parker decided he never wanted to be spider-man? What if he had never been bit by that spider? Who would be there to save people in need? While this is a story of fiction, I always compare it to the story of Jesus on earth.
God sent His only son to our earth so that we could be saved. He walked the heart for 33 years healing and comforting those that needed it. He performed countless numbers of miracles. He gave eyesight to a man in Siloam, He brought back Lazarus from the dead, and He fed 5,000 people with ONE LOAF OF BREAD. We could be here all day listing off the miracles that Jesus performed in his 33 years. But let's think about it for a minute- What if God never sent his Son? What if God decided we didn't need saving? Where would we be? How would we be able to get to Heaven?
The only path to Heaven is through God, but before Jesus died on that cross for our sins, there was no way for us to have a personal relationship with Him. He spoke to our forefathers through prophets. Now, we have the Holy Spirit. I can't explain the trinity to you, so I'm not even going to try but what I do know about it is that the Holy Spirit is what guides us to God today. He lives in us because Jesus already paid that debt for us. We will still have to answer for our sins on judgment day, but while you are on this earth, the Holy Spirit is who guides us. Can you imagine a world where we couldn't talk with God directly? Where we only had direction from prophets? I can't. I am so thankful God sent Jesus to die for us and allow us to have a personal relationship with him.

"God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16)
